I have been painting women and flowers for many years. I love to paint ordinary people in casual outdoor situations, using poses and placement to suggest optimism. A gentle light illuminates a woman’s face and body, casting a faint shadow to represent a romantic desire for a peaceful, restorative retreat from the rigors of modern life. I use the metaphor of the garden of life, in which my enjoyment of painting is similar to a gardener’s enjoyment of planting her garden. During my visits to the United States, especially in Portland, Oregon, I often use homes as my subject.  I use the natural outdoor light, sometimes in the full glare of a midday sun, other times using the softer morning or late afternoon light to create peaceful and unabashedly idyllic scenes.  The wood and stone of the homes must express the human life of the home owners.
